Old Town Hall

On a corner of Rua do Relógio, $nbsp;at the entrance of the town da Vide, there is a small building with Gothic door, external staircase and an open archway, connecting it with Rua do Balcão. $nbsp;It is said to be the original town hall, where councillors issued the municipal $nbsp;laws in the 14th $nbsp;and 15th centuries.

Casa Amarela (The Yellow House)

Casa Amarela (The Yellow House)

Also known as Casa Magessi, it was classified on January 14th, 1975. It is one of the references of the town due to its exuberant Rocaille' decoration on the main facade and the use of yellow ochre, rare amongst the architecture of Castelo de Vide.

The house was totally rebuilt in original style in 2001 and has been used since then as accommodation for tourists (turismo de habitação).

The Matos House

The Matos House

In this house in 1282, King Dinis of Portugal, received the ambassadors of Aragon (Spain), who had come to ratify the contract of marriage between the king and Isabella, princess of Aragon.
It is situated in Rua Direita do Castelo in the medieval borough.

The Arçário House

The Arçário House

Tradition says that this was the house of the tax official who was responsible for the arca (money chest). This is possibly the the origin of the word arçário.$nbsp;

The arca held the taxes paid by the Jews.

The Prior House

The Prior House

A typical house from the 17th century in Rua do Penedo. $nbsp;It has two floors: a ground floor with a door and small window and first floor with two balcony windows with granite surrounds and a third balcony with wrought iron railings. At the centre of the facade there is a granite stone, with cross above, engraved with 3 carnations between palm leaves.

The Town Hall

The Town Hall

Construction began in 1569 and finished in 1692. The clock tower was added in 1721.

Modelled on manor houses in the Minho style, this building has two staircases and balcony windows on the top floor. Access is through two arches at the side, through gates of wrought iron.

The lintel at the main entrance depicts $nbsp;the coat of arms of Portugal.

The Ceremonial Hall was restored by Master Ventura Profírio. It has two murals: one, a scene from the town in Bucolic style, the other from the Second World War, in which is inserted the famous painting The Scream of Münch. The four parishes of Castelo de Vide are represented in frescos on the ceiling.

Also in the Ceremonial Hall are exhibited the 'ceremonial staffs' once used by the town councillors

The House of Mouzinho da Silveira

It is situated in $nbsp;Rua Mouzinho da Silveira, formerly "Arco da Barreira". The house was built 17th - 18th century and depicts the coat of arms of the family Mouzinho da Silveira on the facade. Here lived the great statesman and reformer Mouzinho da Silveira, born in Castelo the Vide.

Old House at Praça D. Pedro V

The house occupies numbers 24 and 26 of Praça D. Pedro V (the main square), It was built in the 18th century and has two floors and four balcony windows. $nbsp;The facade is totally covered with stone. The lintels and doorposts are decorated but the cornices are rectilinear.

It was the manor house of the Torres family, related to Mouzinho da Silveira.

It is possible that this house was built by people from Trás-os-Montes (in northern Portugal) and $nbsp;used for military purposes. This would explain why the facade is covered entirely with stone. Even today there are some families in Castelo de Vide with surnames from the far north, for example Trasmontanos and Chaves.
